Marrying to a foreigner. Living in foreign country. Accepting the foreign culture.

Experience the foreign land; you realize prescriptive concept accumulated within your own home land and within yourself. And you face the reality to accepts new concepts exists in foreign land. Process to accept welter of concepts of values, you will find sheer variety of new sets of concepts of values.

We always can discuss the topic of foreign culture with sophisticated point of view.

But if you let me give you my opinion on foreign cultures, “After all people are easily swayed to easier life style." That will be it.

For example, my husband Cebu Samurai. When we met in Japan, even though he looks like Japanese, he was true Filipino with gentleman's heart with good manner of ladies first. He opens the door for me, help me put on jacket and he did it as natural as he breath. He did all naturally.

But!!! Culture of Chauvinistic Husband was once introduced to him, as quick as a wink he became attached to the Culture of Chauvinistic Husband. Of course Chauvinistic Husband is a lot easier than practice of Ladies first. People grow into easier environment, it is normal for human being.

That's why it is difficult if thing is in reverse case.

My Japanese male friend who married to American lady laments that……….

「I must confess, kiss my wife and say I love you everyday is like common chore and it is burdensome. Many Japanese guys who married to American girl face great deal with it. But if I don't kiss or say I love you everyday, my wife upsets with me and say “You don't love me anymore!" This is something I can never get used to. ｣

And my Japanese female friend who married to American guy laments that……….

「My husband was model husband when we were in states. He were so willing to help me chores at home and taking care of children. Well, it is pretty common for American guy…….. but the moment we started living in Japan, he absorbed easier life for husband. Now he never does any of the household affairs. He relaxes, watches TV and tells me “hey, bring me some beer". I can't stand that now｣

It is a wonderful thing, experience the wide variety of cultures and bring out and practice the best in the different cultures. However there are many cultures we can't quite get used to. So even you think it is a good culture and manner, not all can be practiced and welcomed into our own lives. But at same time, it is easier and nature of human being, we grow into easier environment.

My friend who went back to Japan from Cebu told me once.

「When I was in Cebu, I stressed out with slow pace of living but when I went home, I was surprised to find myself can't keep up with the speed of living in Japan.」

Yes, indeed. Without our intention, we get used to the slow living speed of Cebu. And this is the one of examples for 「Facile adaptation for easier culture」For myself, I don't have much of confidence to keep up with high speed living of Japan now.

So perhaps, Filipino living in Japan put tremendous amount of efforts to adapt to Japanese culture. It must be difficult to live when bringing in Filipino speed of living into Japanese speed of living where livelihood of Japan are counted in seconds.

And result of accepting and adapting the foreign culture after many years of hard time arises interesting aspect of affairs.

Story of my female Filipino friend who lives in Hong Kong and UK for 10 years.

「It was very difficult to lived in foreign country at very first time. I didn't know from right to left. But when I came back to Philippine there are things make me wonder sometimes. For example, sale ladies at store. No matter how long the line is at the cashier, cashier sing and chat with others and don't pay attention to anything else. I always think if there is a time to chat and sing I want them to open other cashier so that we will receive efficient service. But of course nobody does that. And it is amazing that none of the Filipino customers thinks anything of it. No wonder Philippines never developed and grow.」

When Filipino comments Filipino like that, it is pretty trenchancy.
